Boxes

The boxes you encounter across the galaxy are collectible objects that hold randomized rewards inside. There are two main types, and their mechanics are completely different:

  • Booty Box — a reinforced loot chest. It is locked; to open it you must spend a Booty Key. When opened it grants a single reward from its loot table, ranging from ammo, rockets and equipment to RME and even Antimatter.
  • Bonus Box — a free-floating reward box that needs no key. It spawns in large numbers across the maps; just fly close and collect it for an instant reward of Credits, ammo, RME or Red Matter.

The Booty Box is the most valuable loot source in the game. It can hold rare equipment, large ammo stacks and Antimatter — but opening one comes at a cost.

A Booty Box appears in two ways:

  • NPC drop: When you destroy certain enemy NPCs, a Booty Box drops with a chance based on the NPC’s strength. A dropped box stays on the field for 2 minutes, then disappears. Below is which NPC drops a box at which rate.
  • Map spawn: Some maps hold a fixed number of Booty Boxes naturally (20 per map, 40 on Sector X and Sector Y). Booty Boxes do not spawn on the starter maps (HELIOS, NOVA, ORION 1–2).

Note: The weakest NPCs such as Kryll and Lorvax and the swarm types do not drop Booty Boxes.

A Booty Box is locked and is opened with a Booty Key:

  • Each open consumes one Booty Key.
  • A Booty Key is bought from the Shop for Red Matter (and is also earned from the Spaceball event). For the currency side, see the Currencies page.
  • You fly close and start the open; it takes 3 seconds and on completion grants a single reward from the loot table.

Every opened Booty Box picks a single weighted-random reward from the table below. The amount is rolled randomly within the shown range:

  • Ammo & rockets (~93%) make up the bulk of the box: high-tier laser ammo (LAP-3/LAP-4, SAP, RSAP), rockets (MK-3/MK-4), special-module ammo (EMP-A, SNB-A, CLO-A, WSC-A) and RME. For ammo and rockets, see the Ammo page.
  • Equipment (~5.75%) is rare: the lasers LR-3 and LR-4 (the rarest drop in the table — just 0.75%) (Weapons), plus the shield generator SHG-3 and speed generator SPG-3 (Generators).
  • Antimatter (1%) is one of the most valuable rewards — 300–600 at once. For what Antimatter is used for, see the Resources page.

The Bonus Box is a source of steady, small rewards. Unlike the Booty Box it needs no key and is far more common on the map.

  • Bonus Boxes exist on maps in a fixed number: 100 per map; 175 on Sector X and Sector Y.
  • There is no key or wait to collect — enter the box’s collect range and pick it up, and the reward is credited instantly.
  • Reward boost: Bonus Boxes on Sector X and Sector Y grant the reward — these maps are the most efficient places to farm bonuses.

  • The vast majority of the box is Credits and low-tier laser ammo (LAP-1/LAP-2) — frequent but small rewards.
  • RME (4%) is used to prepare Raid gates; this is a steady source of it.
  • Red Matter is the most valuable and rarest Bonus Box reward: from 25 up to 100 , the highest at just 0.5%. The 2× boost on Sector X/Y doubles these values.
